Laura Camilleri presents Archivist on the Road
September 12, 2018 @ 7:00PM
As the Archivist at the Museum of Dufferin (MoD) where she has worked since 2010, Laura Camilleri collects letters, sketchbooks, photographs, and other primary source documents and then gets to share their stories with the public. Laura made the leap to Archives and Information Management after 16 years working in Curatorial and Collections Management in Museums. When she discovered it was much more fun to hunt down the context for an item than it was to catalogue it, there was no looking back and Laura continues to share her passion for archives and what they can tell you with everyone. Lauras current projects include working on the upgrading of Dufferin Genealogy, the online newspaper and genealogy database, research for an upcoming online exhibit and digitizing portions of the photograph collections for the soon to be released online collections database.
An exciting new service came to Dufferin County in January 2018 Archivist on the Road. For the first time the Archives at MoD was able to meet offsite with its visitors and researchers. Conceived as a way to keep in touch with researchers and visitors during the MoD closure due to major gallery renovations, this initiative was such a success that it has been extended through to the end of the year. Learn how the idea was conceived, how she helped the community with local and family history needs, what were the benefits and what were the pitfalls.
Fees Fees for the genealogical club includes 9 meeting's throughout the year, presentations from guest lecturers and subscriptions to services such as Ancestry. Prices are $40 per year, $20 for those with a Annual Pass to the Museum or $6 for individual meetings.
