Before They're Gone: Documenting Living History
This month, our bonus summer series presenter will be Dr. Sali A. Tagliamonte!
Tagliamonte is a Linguistics professor with the University of Toronto. She currently serves as Chair of the Department of Linguistics at U of T and holds the title of Canada Research Chair in Language Variation and Change. Sali and her team of research students have also helped digitize the Museum's audio interviews conducted by John Macfie, and assisted in gathering stories of local Parry Sounders as a way to study dialect.
Sali will be presenting her research on Ontario dialects. Her research is showing that dialects all over Ontario are dying, with them are also fading away the old line small mixed farm culture and history, the pulp and paper industry that was documented so well by John Macfie.
