The Museum is teaming up with Dr. Sali A. Tagliamonte & the University of Toronto to capture our district's history!
Connecting Me to You is an initiative that aims to collect oral interviews from local West Parry Sound District residents. But to make this project a success we need your help! We are asking you, our amazing community, to help us capture more of the area's history by interviewing your family members. The audio recordings gathered from each interview will be transcribed by Dr. Sali A. Tagliamonte with the University of Toronto, who will turn the oral histories into text data that can be searched on the computer. Tagliamonte will also be analyzing the interviews for a book she is writing on the history, culture and language of Ontario.
The interviews gathered for this project will be preserved within the Museum's permanent collection. They will be made accessible to researchers coming into the Museum, and will be held in trust for future generations to listen to.
What You Have To Do:
- Print off and read the Interview Guidelines & Tips pdf
- Select a family member to interview and have them fill out the Interview Consent Form attached below
- Come up with questions to ask during your interview
- Find a quiet spot to conduct your interview
- Conduct the interview - don't forget to do an audio recording on a smartphone or computer
- Submit the recording and Interview Consent Form to the Museum - We will do the rest from here!
