Land
Acknowledgement

Panoramic small.jpg

The West Parry Sound District Museum acknowledges that we are established on and enjoy the land that belongs to the Anishinaabeg/Anishinaabek - Ojibway, Odawa and Potawatomi peoples. This is the territory of Wasauksing and Shawanaga First Nations and is under the Robinson-Huron Treaty. Indigenous peoples have protected, utilized and taught the importance of the water, the land and the trees for years.

As a museum, we are always striving to work with and gain perspective from Indigenous communities. We endeavour to tell their stories without bias and as truthfully as possible. We want to acknowledge the impact of colonization, oppression and violence of all forms that have happened and still persist today.

The West Parry Sound District Museum commits itself to constantly working towards learning and sharing the importance of the history of the land, the cultures present and the history of discrimination. We understand the importance of combining acknowledgements with actions.

Thank you,
West Parry Sound District Museum
